Abstract or Description
Presentation given at the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Expo. To demonstrate student’s ability to apply their knowledge and understanding of medical play with young children, students in a 3000 level class were placed in small groups and instructed to plan a 45 minute session for children ranging in age from two to eight. Students contacted various child care programs to schedule the planned activities. After implementing their plans, each group submitted a paper which described what their plans were, who participated, the children’s comments and reactions, and an evaluation of the experience for both the children and the college students. The results of this scaffolding of learning from professor to university students to children and to classroom teachers will be discussed with participants.This session will focus on a content analysis of the student papers. Data from student papers was collected from November, 2000 to November, 2010 representing 56 student groups (of four to five students) who visited a total of 23 different facilities.
