Abstract or Description

Presentation given at the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting.

This session extends research on the affective trajectory in higher education by exploring interconnections between gender, race, class, emotion, and processes of teaching and learning. As women educators in the diverse fields of teaching and learning, educational research, and curriculum studies, we share in this session, the ways in which our emotional experiences during teaching have influenced our work in and perceptions of academia in similar ways despite the diversity of our backgrounds, disciplines, and subject areas taught. We explore, in particular, a palpable and distinct curriculum in higher education that devalues emotions and, in particular, the emotions of women faculty.
