Abstract
Isaac Charles Parker (1838–96) was born in Ohio. Much has been written about his life and legal career, and he is one of the best-known judicial figures in American history. He is known as “the Hanging Judge” because of his willingness to sentence offenders to the gallows. This readiness to employ capital punishment makes him a somewhat divisive figure in American history.
