Abstract or Description
Presentation given by students Shae Vaughn, Kennon Deal, Keyana Dickens, Thomas Morgan, Tommie Evans, Bridgette Massey, and Adam Donnelly with Gerogia Southern faculty member Allison J. Amonette at Southeastern Regional Meeting (SERMACS).
Research on the hydrogen bonding patterns of 3,5-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid was conducted by several undergraduate students. The compound was first crystallized and then analyzed by x-ray diffraction. The structure of the compound was then determined using the program Crystal Structure. This substance crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/c with unit cell edges 27.18(2), 4.010(1), and 7.049(2) Angstroms and a beta angle of 91.11(3) degrees. Complete structural results, as well as hydrogen bonding patterns will be discussed.
