Biographical Sketch

David Julius Ford, Jr., Ph.D., LPC, NCC, ACS

David Julius Ford, Jr. holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, both from Wake Forest University. In May 2014, he earned his Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Old Dominion University. Dr. Ford is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in North Carolina and Virginia. He is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). Dr. Ford recently completed his third year as an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education in the Department of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University, where he serves as the faculty adviser to the Nu Lambda chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and the JMU Gospel Choir.

Dr. Ford’s professional interests are Black Greek life; multicultural issues; college students; African American males in higher education; addictions counseling; supervision; group work; qualitative research; the LGBTQQIA community; Intersectionality; and persons living with HIV/AIDS. He has experience as an instructor for undergraduate human services courses and has taught graduate courses on career counseling, testing and assessment, clinical mental health counseling, addictions counseling, practicum supervision, and group counseling. He has also taught a doctoral-level dissertation course and a doctoral-level course in grant-writing and program evaluation. He is one of 24 inaugural fellows of the NBCC Minority Fellowship Program. Dr. Ford is a classically-trained pianist and is a proud and active member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. As an undergraduate, he had the privilege of taking a class taught by the late Dr. Maya Angelou. Dr. Ford currently lives in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Gerry E. Coffee, Ed.D.

Gerry E. Coffee earned his B.A. in Psychology at Fisk University. He earned his M.P.A. and his Ed.D. at Bowie State University. He has a Certificate in Business Administration from The Georgetown University and a Certificate in Project Management from The George Washington University. He has taught graduate-level courses in Public Administration, Business Administration, and Education. Currently, he teaches at the University of The Potomac. Prior to teaching at UOTP, Dr. Coffee taught at Bowie State University. He has also worked for Deloitte, LLP, and five federal agencies over his tenure with the government.

Joshua Littleton, M.Ed., LAPC, NCC

Mr. Littleton obtained his M.Ed in Community Mental Health Counseling from Augusta University and a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Toccoa Falls College. He was a classroom teacher In South Korea for four years and trained foreign English teachers to work with Korean youth. His areas of research focus on counseling gatekeeping, dissociative disorders, and LGBTQ+ issues in counseling practice. Mr. Littleton's clinical areas of expertise focus on adolescence and emerging adulthood, couples counseling, and LGBTQ+ issues.

Josmar Trejo-Sanchez

Josmar is a senior at Armstrong State University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Spanish. Being fluent in English and Spanish along with American Sign Language has allowed him to have the opportunity in finding mentors with a wide variety of interest mentoring me on my professional development growth. he has been an active member of the student body, serving as president for the second biggest student-lead organization on campus and serving as vice president for Phi Iota Alpha Inc. Josmar has also helped in the mentoring and teaching of student and staff in Safe zones around college campuses. Being an activist for the LGBTQ+ community is something he is extremely passionate about.

Joshua Thomas, QMHP-E

Joshua Thomas currently serves Richmond, VA as a qualified mental health professional with Supportive Intervention Services, LLC. Mr. Thomas earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. Mr. Thomas has great passion and dedication to improve the psychological, cultural, and socioeconomic conditions of marginalized communities. Mr. Thomas dedicated three years to public health while working for the Virginia Department of Health in Richmond, VA before going full-time in the field of mental health. Mr. Thomas is a proud representative and former VSU chapter president of the Psi Chi International Honor Society for Psychology Majors and Minors. Mr. Thomas is also a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc.

Jean Fabrice Nzdana, M.A./Ed.S. Candidate

Mr. Nzdana is a third-year Counseling student at James Madison University, earning his M.A./Ed.S..

Cedric Cooks, DPC, LPC, NCC, NCSC

Dr. Cooks has earned his B.S.Ed., M.S.Ed. and his Ed.S. in Guidance in Counseling, all from Jackson State University. He earned his Doctor of Professional Counseling from Mississippi College. He has five years teaching experience in the Jackson Public Schools, eight years experience in the Jackson Public schools as a High School Counseling, and a year online teaching with Jackson State University. Currently, Dr. Cooks is a School Counselor with the Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Gregory Marcelle, M.Ed., Resident in Counseling, CAADC, CSAC

Gregory Marcelle hails from Amityville, NY. He attended Virginia State University where earned his Bachelor's degree in Science (Biology) and Master of Education with a concentration in Community Counseling. Currently, he works at Supportive Intervention Services, LLC, in Richmond, Virginia where he is an Intensive In-home Lead Supervisor and Therapeutic Treatment Center, LLC, where he is a Mental Health/Substance Abuse Outpatient Therapist. Mr. Marcelle’s duties at Supportive Intervention Services, LLC, include providing clinical recommendations to staff members during supervision, facilitate trainings along with assisting with new employee training, and he has one intensive in-home case where he teaches and models appropriate behavioral strategies along with assisting the family with improving their dynamics in the home. Each child or adolescent that is involved in intensive in-home is at risk of being removed out of the home and the goal is to help the client remain in the home. At Therapeutic Treatment Center, LLC, he conducts substance abuse groups two nights a week and does individual counseling with mental health and substance abuse 4 days a week. He serves children and adults at Therapeutic Treatment Center, LLC. Mr. Marcelle is in his residency to obtain his LPC in Virginia. He has earned his Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) and Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) certifications.
