Presenter Biography

Tralen (Trey) Rhone is a senior Writing and Linguistics student at Georgia Southern University. He is an Augusta, Georgia, native but if you ask about his hometown, he’ll tell you how much he hates it. If he isn’t writing, then he’s probably listening to music. Ask him about his funeral playlist. He is going to pursue his MFA with a concentration in poetry at Florida International University. Tweets infrequently at @TreyRho.

"I came to Georgia Southern with a plan in mind. I was gonna be an English Major, graduate, teach either elementary or high school, and change students' lives somehow. Little did I know that I would have my own path and life changed by my professors in the Writing and Linguistics department. From Professor Sexton telling me to send my writing to him when I first toured Southern to Olson telling me to take her poetry class after winning the Brannen Award to even Drevlow letting me co-emcee Burning Swamp. They all saw something in me and helped shape me into the writer I am today.

I just want to thank the Writing and Linguistics Department for being the best department here at Georgia Southern. We have such a vibrant community that is more family than students and faculty. I also want to thank all my professors for pouring their heart, soul, and belief into me and shaping me into the student and writer I am today. Thank you, Olson, for being my mentor and being the one who showed me what poetry is, can be, and how to make it my own. Thank you, Sexton, for believing in my writing, my ideas and creating a path for me to find this department. Thank you, Drevlow, for letting me share the stage with you on those Tuesdays, introducing all the great writers of those nights, and closing it all out on some occasions. Thank you to all the people, classmates, friends that I made along the way. You all push me to continue on this path, to keep being me, and to keep writing and letting my voice be heard.

I will never forget my time here at Southern as it has been the best four years of my entire life. Statesboro will always be a place that I call home. Thank you for the fun four years to both Georgia Southern and the Writing and Linguistics Department. This has been Trey or sometimes known as that one guy with the hat. Peace Out."
