Abstract

This interactive presentation will introduce and demonstrate an evidence-based brief intervention model that builds clients’ awareness of how their mental health and substance use issues prevent them from achieving their life goals, motivates them to seek follow-up specialist care and increases their chances of services referral follow-up, engagement and retention in care, and adherence to treatment. A variety of providers can successfully deliver a client centered brief intervention within ten to twelve minutes in virtually any service setting.
