Summary of Interview

This interview was filmed at the 2016 POAG Conference. Worked for the Savannah Police Department for thirty-three years. December 1959 became a patrolman for Savannah Police Department. Grew up in South Carolina and moved to Georgia after graduating from high school. Started with a salary of $252 a month. Favorite thing about being a police officer is being able to help people and the benefits it provides. Discusses the change in respect from the public towards police officers. Savannah Civil Rights Movement. The police department did not have a problem with hiring other races. Discusses how black officers dealt with white civilians. Wishes the public knew more about the dangers of the job, what comes along with it, and the hours they put in. Inspired to join the POAG because of the comradery the organization has.
