Abstract

In preparing for classrooms with a student-centered focus, the researcher has conceptualized the need to promote the construct of collaboration as a moderating variable toward an engaged learning environment. This type of exploratory research interest is being informed by the development of a research agenda that is viewed through the lens of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM). The researcher has identified through the embryotic stages of the literature review that programs such as Student-Centered Active Learning Environments with Upside-down Pedagogy (SCALE-UP) and related efforts that have come to be known as “flipped pedagogy” may be a 21st century avenue to advance a diverse representation in the STEAM fields for P-12 and higher education.

The presentation will attempt to promote the development of the dissertation topic through the active engagement that is emerging from the pedagogical approach of the doctoral journey in the Research Methods Course.
