Proposal Title
Engaging African American Fathers in Education: Practice, Research, Policy and Evaluation
Abstract
Fathers, including African American fathers play an important role in the lives of their children. Education, practice, research, policy, and evaluation have been widely recognized for being matricentric. As a result, educators, practitioners, researchers, and policy makers have a limited understanding of positive outcomes associated with African American fathers’ involvement, how to engage fathers, and how to develop supportive practice, research, policy, and evaluation that are inclusive of fathers; especially African American fathers.
This presentation will introduce a father-inclusive framework for education, practice, research, and evaluation. Including African American fathers in education, practice, research, evaluation and policy will work to challenge and change the deficient narrative that persists related to African American fathers.
