Exploring Forms of Inquiry in Memoir: When the Music Has No Lyrics
Abstract
Using Mary Karr's, The Art of Memoir, this research proposal seeks to demonstrate and explore non-traditional dissertation writing through memoir. When the Music Has No Lyrics is a research proposal designed in a spoken word format reflecting the journey of a deaf education teacher's instantaneous shift from a healthy body to being diagnosed with cancer and liver disease. Karr's book became the foundation in which this form of inquiry found direction to pen raw emotions, beliefs and the spirit that shaped a depth of personal interpretation through each experience.
Keywords
