Proposal Title
Antecedents of Teacher's Organizational Citizenship Behaviors
Abstract
Organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) are voluntary behaviors that do not count towards the individual's required commitments and duties towards the organization such as helping coworkers without a desire for compensation. Past research has demonstrated that organizational citizenship behaviors of teachers influences the school culture which impacts all aspects of the school including academic and pedagogical practices. In this study, the antecedents of organizational citizenship behavior are examined. Specifically, what motivates teachers to exhibit OCB in schools. Based on past research, the teacher's perception about organizational support, justice climate, and ethical climate of school is measured and its impact on their OCB is examined. The school climate and support are selected because they are directly related to the school management level. A total of 140 teachers were surveyed. A structural equation model was used to conduct the data analysis. Demographic variables (age, gender and years of experience) were used as moderator variables in the analysis. This study will provide unique insights on what motivates teachers to exhibit OCB in their workplace.
