Abstract
The Common Core State Standards is a set of standards released by the National Governors Association in June of 2010 and was adopted by 43 states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and the Department of Defense Education Activity (Common Core, 2014). The standards describe what students should know and be able to do in each subject in each grade. They are designed to be academically rigorous, while attainable for students and practical for teachers to teach. The purpose of this exploratory descriptive study is to try out a new tool (lessonfarm.com) to help inservice teachers learn about common core standards and prepare lessons with the use of close reading strategy aligned with common core standards. This study will be implemented with master’s degree students (teachers) who enrolled in EDAT7132-Framework for Teaching and EDAT7131- Enhancing Student Performance courses at Georgia Southern University. All of the students who volunteer to participate in the study will be included as data source. The results of the study will be beneficial to all teachers, districts, teacher education programs and preservice teachers. If the study shows positive results that the online tool is effective, the tool will be available to all teachers, students and teacher education programs.
