Closing the Gap between Nutrition Knowledge and Real Life Application: Simple Tips on Healthy Eating
Abstract
What we eat (or don’t eat) has a profound effect on nutritional status and overall health. Nutrition affects everyone and plays a significant role in longevity and quality of life. There are six classes of essential nutrients: carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, minerals, and water. A well-balanced diet, incorporating the right type and amount of these essential nutrients, can help prevent and/or treat chronic disease. Unfortunately, too many Americans are not getting in the correct type or amount of nutrients to support long-term health. In addition, taking nutrition knowledge and applying it to “real” life can be daunting and challenging. During this session, participants will learn about the essential nutrients, including healthier alternatives and proper portion sizes. In addition, simple tips will be provided on how to apply this nutrition knowledge to everyday life.
