Abstract

Too often, health communication strategies feel like they've been ordered off a menu – generic and "inclusive for all". Unfortunately, this approach misses the mark and sparks minimal behavior change in the communities that may benefit most from communications on access to healthcare.

As health professionals, key communication factors must be realized to be effective – what is communicated, how it is communicated and when to invite two-way engagement.

How can we understand harder-to-reach communities and the health disparities without effectively encouraging two-way dialogue? In this interactive session, we will review short-form standout stories that use different interactive engagement strategies (e.g., community perception surveys, digital channels, etc.) to discover the keys to bridging the gap between Black and Brown communities and access to healthcare.

Attendees will take away:

  • The importance of appropriate audience segmentation for communication and healthcare program planning;

  • The basic principles of engaging in interactive/two-way dialogue with multicultural and Black and Brown communities;

  • Best practices for ensuring authenticity through communication programs.
