The Trauma Informed Classroom
Presentation Abstract
The Trauma Informed Classroom will explore the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) Study and discuss how the teacher/student relationship is instrumental in counteracting the effects of childhood trauma and in building resilience. participants will learn about trauma's impact on social, emotional and cognitive function. We will identify the overlaps between trauma and medical or mental health diagnoses and discover why trauma is often misidentified. School personnel will learn simple strategies that can be implemented in classrooms and schools now to create trauma-informed environments that foster success in all students. Because the strategies presented can be used in the home as well as the community, parents also will benefit from attending.
