Abstract

The purpose of this article is to illustrate how Photovoice may be used within community health and program planning courses to help health education students better understand the value of using community-based participatory methods during needs assessment and planning.ObjectivesBy the end of this project, students will be able toapply Photovoice methods to community needs assessment,identify health-related resources and barriers within a community,facilitate community dialogue about identified health-related barriers and resources,create an action plan based on community members consensus of next steps, andevaluate the benefits and challenges of using Photovoice as a community-based method for needs assessment.Primary AudienceThis teaching strategy is tailored to undergraduate and graduate community health students.
