Abstract

Are Millennials less civil? Is this generation too attached to their phones to notice others? Are today's students rude and inappropriate? This presentation will engage the audience in trying to answer these questions and more. The issue of incivility on college campuses today will be described. A review of recent literature and research will be presented. The audience will be encouraged to engage in discussion about how leaders in higher education can impact civility on college campuses. Recent trends and examples will be shared and the audience will have the opportunity to discuss best practices for addressing incivility on college campuses. Examples of civility campaigns and civility education will be explored. The presenter will share personal experiences in trying to engage a First Year Experience class on the topic of incivility.
