Abstract or Description

Libraries face challenges in retaining skilled library professionals while maintaining high morale. Conventional dependence on impression managementwhere workers adjust their outward actions to align with perceived expectations often lead to superficial compliance instead of genuine engagement.Shifting this paradigm towards systematic gratitude practices, strengths‐based recognition, and intentional well-being support fosters an authenticworkplace culture that directly enhances job satisfaction and retention.Research supports this approach through the Gratitude Questionnaire-6 (GQ-6), which is a validated six-item scale using 7-point Likert response tomeasure and encourage such activities. Gratitude interventions and appreciative inquiry practices that include peer‐to‐peer thank‐you notes, monthlyrecognition forums, and digital “shout‐outs,” communicate that contributions are recognized and valued which can foster a sense of belonging. When staffare encouraged to identify and apply their core strengths, they can experience increased self‐efficacy and a sense of purpose. This translates into higherperformance and lower turnover. At the same time, prioritizing well‐being through mindfulness resources, flexible scheduling when possible, and open‐doorpolicy can reduce burnout and enhance resilience. The intentional shift from impression management to authentic gratitude yields three outcomes:Cultivates a culture of authenticity, allowing staff to present their true professional identities.Establishes continuous, strengths‐focused feedback loops that support personalized growth and development.Strengthens team cohesion by replacing competition with collaboration through mutual appreciation.By embedding gratitude and appreciative inquiry into daily operations, library practitioners can shift from managing appearances to nurturing genuinecommitment. This can lead to a stable, motivated, and high‐performing team. These practices improve individual well-being and can create a supportiveenvironment where everyone feels valued, connected, and empowered to contribute meaningfully. Over time, this culture of gratitude and recognition cantransform workplace dynamics to enhance overall organizational success. The presenters will share practical examples of activities successfullyimplemented in their workplaces.
