Description

The Language Instruction Training Module, specifically designed for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teachers at Emory Health Systems, serves as a pioneering educational tool to enhance English language proficiency among non-English speaking employees. This comprehensive program aims to equip educators with essential tools and strategies for effective language teaching within a diverse healthcare setting. Recognizing the pivotal role of language educators in fostering a culture of inclusivity and effective communication, this module focuses on facilitating language acquisition and developing communication skills among staff members. The training is uniquely tailored to the healthcare sector, emphasizing the importance of language skills in delivering superior patient care and supporting Emory Health Systems' mission.

The virtual curriculum contains a number of modules that assemble innovative pedagogical approaches, practical methodologies, and a multitude of resources to provide educators with the necessary guidance for teaching English in a healthcare context. It aims to create a collaborative learning environment that values diversity, promotes cultural understanding, and encourages the exchange of knowledge. By implementing the techniques and strategies provided, educators will be able to support non-English speaking employees in their language learning journey, enabling them to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. This initiative not only empowers employees but also contributes to a more inclusive and supportive healthcare environment. Emory Healthcare extends gratitude to the students’ commitment to this vital aspect of the organization, highlighting the module as a valuable resource in fostering a unified and proficient healthcare community. Students are currently expanding on the project by creating an easily accessible website for healthcare professionals to navigate printable lesson plans, in-classroom activities, group-work strategies, and direct links to outside resources.
