A Teacher’s Story: Promoting Rhetorical Flexibility via Transfer of Writing to Media

Abstract

Recent work on transfer shows that it involves not only current knowledge but also adapting knowledge into new formats. This presentation shares results of taking FYW students through a process of “adaptive transfer” by scaffolding from traditional analytical writing into digital media formats. The course goal was to open the students’ writing processes to a fuller range of competencies and modes of expression.
