Academic/ Professional Development - Research

Abstract

Research indicates that students who have a growth mindset are more inclined to continue to put effort into learning, even if they feel like giving up. When students focus on effort rather than outcomes, they are focusing on learning the content rather than just getting to an answer. Encouraging them to embrace the idea of a ‘growth mindset’ has the potential to influence academic achievement and other affective behavior such as self-efficacy, effort, motivation, and persistence. In this presentation we will engage the audience in mindset activities and share findings from a study focused on encouraging students to foster a growth mindset.
