Abstract

The Teaching Innovation Group is a faculty driven professional development group that provides mutual support for innovative teaching practices. The group functions as an adhocratic structure where members discuss the scholarship of teaching and learning, teaching innovation, and teaching/learning predicaments. Topics included student feedback, curriculum mapping, mind mapping, etc. Results of surveys of participants and analysis of meeting notes suggests that this type of professional development facilitates meaningful improvements in classroom practice and needed support for innovation. We will discuss results as well as recommendations for structures for adhocratic groups and present examples of problems of practice tackled by the group.
