Evidence

Research shows that positive childhood experiences (PCEs) help children grow into healthy, resilient adults. The HOPE framework centers around the Four Building Blocks of HOPE, key types of positive childhood experiences that all children need to thrive:

  • Relationships: safe and supportive relationships within the family and with other children and adults.
  • Environment: safe, equitable, and stable environments where children can live, learn, and play.
  • Engagement: opportunities for social and civic engagement to develop a sense of belonging and connectedness.
  • Emotional Growth: opportunities for emotional growth where children feel supported through difficult events and emotions.

Learning Objective 1

Learn how key positive childhood experiences prevent and mitigate the effects of ACEs.

Learning Objective 2

Develop an understanding of the 4 building blocks of HOPE.

Learning Objective 3

Gain knowledge of Type 1 and Type 2 thinking and the differences between the two.
