Brief Program Description
This presentation will provide school staff with strategies for preventing, mitigating, and recovering from a school crisis. With the help of the PREPaRE model, participants will be shown what works and what lessons were learned when dealing with crises in a large school district.
Summary
School crises happen every day, but with the use of foundations from the PREPaRE crisis model, our district has been successful in preventing, mitigating, and recovering from these events. This presentation will provide participants with real-world examples of crisis situations and strategies that worked in our district when faced with such tragedies. The method for data collection used in our district will also be introduced and participants will learn ways in which to enhance school safety in their own districts.
Evidence
Evidence that demonstrates the effectiveness is the use of an evidence-based model called PREPaRE when planning for and mitigating crises. Our district has adopted this model and has collected our own data on its effectiveness causing us to change our processes each year and as needed.
