Brief Program Description

The SC Department of Mental Health’s, School Connection Review (SCR) is designed provide a reliable and efficient measure of the extent to which DMH school mental health clinicians are participating with their school to deliver best practices and applying the core features of an Interconnected System Framework of school mental health and MTSS.

Summary

The purpose of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health’s School Mental Health, School Connection Review (SCR) is to provide a reliable and efficient measure of the extent to which DMH school mental health clinicians are using best practices with school personnel and applying the core features of an Interconnected System Framework of school mental health and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
Reasons to Implement a Recognition Program:
• Increased engagement among DMH school mental health clinicians, school staff, and students
• Ensure schools are implementing evidence-based practices and interventions
• Increase motivation for both DMH and school personnel
• Show appreciation to both DMH and school personnel
• Boost SMH clinician retention
• Create a more positive workplace environment
The SCR may be used (a) for initial assessment to determine if a school is effectively using DMH school mental health services, (b) to reinforce the implementation of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 MH practices, (c) as an indicator to help sustain effective implementation, and (d) as a metric for identifying schools for recognition for their school/DMH partnership.
The SCR will provide materials to guide both the initial onboarding of a school mental health clinician and the sustained effectiveness of the clinician. SCR results will provide information for developing an action plan that guides effective school mental health implementation.
