Abstract

The international communication of Chinese culture has been regarded as the national strategy and great efforts have been made in the past decades. However, Chinese classics have not won great popularity as what were expected. The main causes for their unpopularity lie in taking the strategy of government-oriented policy and lacking full comprehension of the role of western audiences. Nowadays, international communication of Chinese culture, being in the primary stage of its development, requires an objective and sober understanding of the communication situation between China and western countries. And the choice of audience-oriented strategy may facilitate the international communication of Chinese classics through reinforcing efforts in content selection, translation strategy, and ideology weakening.
