Abstract

Cultural content and authentic materials have become an integral part of language teaching in general and Arabic teaching in particular. There is even more need to integrate culture and authentic materials in Arabic teaching, with the concept of diglossia as an evident reality of Arabic.Cultural content and authentic materials are those materials that were not primarily designed for language teaching. They are created with a real daily use of language for native speakers of a language. These materials include songs, ads, TV shows, movies , real life encounters between natives, newspaper pages , social media interactions and so on. These materials are utilized later by a teacher or a facilitator in class to serve a certain teaching point he presents to his students. out of my experience in teaching Arabic, this paper will attempt to show how culture content and authentic materials can be presented in an early stage in teaching Arabic in a structured and tailored approach to serve both exposing and immersing students in Arabic learning, bearing in mind the challenges that are peculiar to Arabic learning. In this regard, the paper point out the principles that govern the selection of materials and activities in class to boost students' motivation and hence their progress.
