Full Session Description

Many professionals are called to the field of child development to be helpers and givers. As professionals, we teach and guide others pouring into their lives generously; however, we often struggle with identifying, meeting, and maintaining our own self-care in healthy ways. If unaware, we can pour out until we are empty. In a time when normal routine(s) have been altered or replaced, self-care is vital and serves a foundational role in both preparing and equipping professionals. Me, Myself, and I: Navigating Self-Care in the New Normal will focus on the value of self-care while exploring various components of self-care including building resiliency, increasing self-awareness, setting boundaries, positive self-image, and fostering relaxation. The new normal provides a launchpad for positive change. Perhaps now is the best time to establish new patterns of healthy self-care. As we pour into ourselves in beneficial ways, we grow as helpers. Christopher Germer said, “A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life.” Now is the best time to go forward with applicable, healthy skills.
