Primary Presenter Brief Bio

I am a certified retired teacher. I have taught pre-kindergarten, third grade, Physical Education, and Kindergarten. I have participated in the Georgia BFTS State Young Children's Conference. The title of my presentation was Music Throughout the Day. I have also given workshops at Appling County School on how to use the Star Lab, a portable planetarium. Furthermore, for over fifteen years, at Appling County Primary School, I presented an hour musical multicultural celebration to over one hundred fifty pre-kindergarten children. I was selected as Appling County Primary 2000 Teacher of the Year, and WTOC Top Teacher of the Week, April 16,2003. I have served on several state's SACS's Teams : Reidsville, Brunswick, and Clayton schools. I have recorded my first CD titled, "Our Childhood Songs"

Second Presenter Brief Bio

A 2012 Graduate of Armstrong State University, with her Bachelor's of Art degree in Psychology, and her 2016 Master's of Science degree in Applied Behavior, from Florida Institute of Technology. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has served in this position for over five years.

Celebrate the Difference Multicultural Presentation will include, music and movement, discussions, and art. Students will compare, contrast, and learn about other cultures. Students will discuss how Bulling is related to none acceptance of children's diversities.

Full Session Description

Celebrate the Difference Multicultural Presentation will include, music and movement, discussions, and art. Bright From the Start GELDS development standards will be written on all hand outs. Opening with an African American song and movement, “Head and Shoulders Baby” . Introduce myself, as the presenter. Introduce that multicultural is not new to our country. Next, a power point demonstrating how we are a devise country by showing celebrities that come from devise backgrounds: Dwayne Johnson-African , Canadian, and Samoan; Mariah Carey -African American and Venezuelan, Keanu Reeves -Chinese and Polynesian, Ne Yo -Chinese and African American. State that our nation, The United States of America, was and is built on people of various cultures. Students will compare, contrast, and learn about others through their depiction of their home, car, and family. Discuss why we should teach multicultural in the classroom using a power point stating, Reason for teaching multicultural are: Respect, Acceptance, We are A like and Different and Identify Stereotype ideas. Students will recognize the devise language of Americans in various areas of the United States as well as other ethnicity with the use of a power point demonstrations. Using the website, Nancy Stewart Gung Hay Fat Choy, students move to music with a hand fan, Chinese New Year song. Discuss how Bulling is related to none acceptance of kid's diversities; whether appearance, or disability. Examples given using power point; American Got Talents have had presenters that were bulled because of their differences: Will Samuel J. Comore , comedian , bulled for his disability, Troy James, contortionist, bulled as a child for having flexible body parts, and now on facebook, Kheris Poppin, Flexin In My Complexion, bullied for her skin color. Students will participate in creating a representation of themselves using multicultural people, hair, eyes, and clothes. Inclusion, use closing leaflets on power point: (Diversity is not about how we differ; we may have different religions, languages, colored skins but we all belong to the one Human Race); and restate why teach multicultural to our children.
