Abstract
This project explores operational strategies of the local organization Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful (KSBB). The focus will be on KSBB’s implementation of methods to facilitate litter prevention and community sustainability within the Statesboro-Bulloch County area. Through this collaborative practicum, I will examine the business outreach, resident education, and coordination of local events. I will explore the methods that KSBB uses to engage the community and present them to explain their use and effectiveness. I am working with Timeka Shannon, Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful’s Coordinator, to learn more about how the organization does outreach and educates the community. Using a participatory approach, I am working with the organization to develop content (instagram posts, t-shirt designs, a mini-documentary, and photo story) and prepare for the GreenFest event in March. The goal of this project is to analyze the effectiveness of these methods and implement visual storytelling to engage social media users. The final project will include an analysis of KSBB’s local environmental education methods, a study of KSBB’s social media engagement on Instagram, as well as a digital photo-story and mini-documentary showcasing community engagement efforts. This mini-documentary and photo-story will focus on KSBB’s primary event, GreenFest, on March 28, 2026. This content will help visualize the impact of local environmental advocacy, residential volunteering, and education in Statesboro. This project will help KSBB, and other environmental organizations, better understand how to engage the community in order to change attitudes and facilitate public action.
