Mark Gibson is an Instructional Specialist, adjunct professor for Middle Tennessee State University, and a small business owner. He was raised in the Carolinas before moving to Tennessee. His teaching career began in 2014. Since then, he has gained experience as an educator and instructional coach in all grades Kindergarten through eighth. He is passionate about supporting and encouraging teachers to bring their own uniqueness from their experiences and personality into the content they

Second Presenter's Brief Biography

Shavonta is an educator, entrepreneur, and mentor. She is a native of Lawton, Oklahoma and attended the University of Louisville. She began her career in education as a 6th grade ELA teacher in the Dallas Independent School District in 2009 and currently serves as an Instructional Coach in Middle Tennessee. Her passion as an Instructional Coach is to equip teachers with the tools to become empowered and confident educators at every stage of their careers. When she is not working, she enjoys being a small business owner, cat- mom to Jellybean and binge watching Golden Girls.

Relevance

Our session focuses on the work needed to becoming emotionally mature as an adult to better understand ourselves and our students as they navigate life after experienceing adverse childhood experiences. We parallel this idea with a monarch by setting our end goal on being socially and emotionally aware of ourselves to better rule our area of influence. We also use Hattie's mindframes to reiterate this concept within academics as an educator. Lastly, we follow up with practical steps to refect on our work life balance and make steps to return to joy in order to bring our best versions of ourselves to work to serve the most school-dependent children.

The journey of transforming Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) into triumphant success stories begins with empowered and prepared educators. This session is dedicated to exploring the essential work required to equip educators with the tootls, knowledge, and reslience needed to effectively serve and uplift our most school-dependent children.
