Brief Program Description

Teachers, students, and staff are being increasingly impacted by post Covid issues, experiences of school violence, and the additional stresses of the everchanging social and political landscape issues affecting schools in how and what to teach. These traumas can impact students’ ability to behave in the classroom, but can also impact instructors’ well-being and effectiveness in addressing challenging behaviors. In this entertaining, engaging and interactive session, participants will learn how to use trauma-informed disciplinary policies and practices that avoid re-traumatization, and reduce potential escalation of difficult behavior, while also taking care of oneself, in order to be effective at maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students and staff. Resource materials will be provided and the chance given to engage in collaborative real, raw and relevant conversations about opportunities and challenges of applying these strategies to their own school settings
