Relevance
With teacher and school counselor national shortages, this presentation promotes education for teachers who are needing more resources to have trauma informed classrooms. This material will help educators to help students feel validated and heard.
Brief Program Description
This presentation gives an overview over common mental health issues that are seen in the classroom. The presenter educates on simple ways to help students feel validated, heard and supported. This material promotes critical thinking and promotes healthy supportive relationships between educators and students.
Summary
As our nation attempts to heal from COVID 19, the effects of mental distress are still prevalent for many. Rates of depression and anxiety in children are higher than previously reported. There are wait lists for students to meet with mental health professionals to help meet their needs. Brittany has experience as both an educator and a counselor. Brittany is passionate about educating others on both sides. This presentation will focus on common mental health concerns for students and how to promote and help students to emotionally self regulate. Brittany also provides education for educators about how to care for themselves as well as caring for others.

One third of students between 2nd and 5th grade require considerable reassurance with tasks due to struggles of Anxiety (Jefferson Center, 2022)
According to the Center for Disease Control (2022), 8 million students struggle with anxiety and depression.
Using ACE (Averse Childhood Experiences) is a way to determine how traumatic experiences will affect development.
