Strand #1

Academic Achievement & School Leadership

Relevance

This proposal is highly connected to Strand I: Academic Achievement and School Leadership. The presenters will provide program participants with specific steps to create an "Escape Room" activity in the After School Program environment using STEM activities to support student learning and collaboration.

Brief Program Description

The presenters will demonstrate through a hands-on, "escape room" experience how STEM activities can be incorporated in an after school program activity to support learning in a diverse setting while incorporating the needs of all students. Come escape with us!

Summary

Are you looking for an activity that will incorporate problem-solving techniques and collaboration among students? The After School Program Escape Room is just one way to bring students together to play, learn and grow in an all inclusive way. Each participant can use their strengths to solve puzzles, create structures through STEM, solve problems and practice team building techniques to successfully "escape" the room. Participants will receive information on how to create a successful escape room on their own.

Evidence

The benefits of conducting an escape room activity are endless! It might seem obvious, but it is a great way for students to develop problem-solving skills. Escape rooms promote teamwork and creativity. This type of activity will help students focus and keep them engaged in learning in a fun, after school environment.
