The presenters will discuss educators’ progress over a 30-year period to recognize high-risk behaviors for teenage suicide, will compare identified factors, what still is lacking among educators’ knowledge and training, and indicate effective programs, methods, and practices to assist professionals in developing comprehensive intervention plans.

Biographical Sketch

Renitta Goldman - Presenter will provide.

Sharyn Hillin was named the Special Education Coordinator. Hillin has more than 27 years of experience in education, 22 of which have been with Shelby County Schools. She taught middle and high school special education for 12 years, became the assistant principal at the Linda Nolen Learning Center, served as the Special Education Program Specialist for six area schools in Shelby County and most recently served as the special education supervisor. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in special education. She completed the educational administration program at the University of Montevallo and a master’s degree in educational leadership at UAB. She is currently working towards her Ph.D at UAB.
