Certified Restraint Training provides an insight to crisis management, school safety laws, anger management, creating safe spaces and school security. CRT provides updated and relevant information on how to safely restraint individuals in both a public and private school setting. Safety and violence prevention in a school setting is not only best practice but it is the law.

Brief Program Description

Certified Restraint Training/Keeping Everyone safe will provide an extensive overview about how to safely restrain individuals in a public/private school setting. This presentation will address the needs, questions, concerns, etc. of those professionals presently working in a public/private school setting.Participants will leave with an understanding of when, how and where to administer physical restrain and/or verbal de-escalation..

Summary

Keeping Everyone Safe is a presentation that will provide those that attend an extensive overview of the use of physical restraint in a public, private school setting as well as other area where youth might be involved with physical and or verbal confrontation. Certified Restraint Training will be specific about both State and Federal law as well as the necessity to document any/all encounters involving physical restraint.

Both Verbal and Non-verbal de-escalation will be discussed and how it will work in any violent situation. Participants will be give methods, ideas and real life situation to practice "how to" physically restrain an individual that is in a "rage" and in the position to hurt themselves or someone else.

This session will also discuss student negotiation techniques.

Take home learning opportunities will include role playing in various situations that require either verbal/non-verbal deescalation and or physical restraint. Specific visual aids will be used to generate discussion on how to handle potential out of control situations.

Evidence

Certified Restraint Training will provide current research that physical restraint and verbal deescalation can defuse a potential dangerous situation.

Various and specific State/Federal law will be discussed as well as the extent that physical and non-verbal deescalation is effective.

Biographical Sketch

Matt Eldridge began his education in Tennessee on a football scholarship. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1986. He added a Masters of Arts Degree in Adminstration and Supervision in 1993. He then completed his Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership in 1997. Matt has enjoyed a successful career in education in public school for over a quarter century. During his 25 plus years in Education, Matt has served as a coach, classroom teacher, Chairperson of the Student Discipline Authority, administrator over student discipline, truancy officer, and Director of Schools.

Matt has authored two books, Certified Restraint Training and The Handbook Reference Guide to deescalation Techniques and Strategies.


Matt has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He continues to use his extensive athletic participation, classroom experience to design and alter physical maneuvers that can be used safely and effective in any school setting.
