Relevance
The past two years I presented at the character counts conference in Sav, GA. Both years I was able to show how diversity(HEART strand) is an important consideration in how we deal with all our students. Cultural diversity is relevant when we are living in a country that reflects a racial divide. This racial divide is also identified in the educational setting.
Brief Program Description
Specific Objective: To raise our individual consciousness in regards to cultural diversity.
Topics:Current research is explored, students and teacher reaction to racial issues that come up in the school setting. The current racial climate in the US as compared to other nations.
Target audience: Teachers and school staff, Mental Health Staff.
Summary
My proposal will include pertinent information for today's educators who are dealing with students with challenging social situations. It will include how to become a culturally responsive educator. It will provide participants with classroom strategies and participants will become reflective educators.
Evidence
Working with middle school students, parents and staff over the past 18 years has provided me with an opportunity to field test the response to being a culturally responsive educator. I have run my small groups and classroom guidance with this base strategy as well as trained and presented to countless educator this reflective teaching style. Many of whom have shared with me their results.
