Biographical Sketch
Michael Benjamin, Prevention Specialist, Alpha Academy, Conyers, GA
Michael Benjamin has worked with youth service agencies and schools for more than twenty years assisting at-risk youth and students with self-management and positive behavioral development. Currently, he is lead prevention and intervention specialist with Rockdale County Public Schools. In this role, he provides professional development and training to teachers and administrators in the areas of discipline and behavior management with challenging students in their school building. Also, Michael coordinates the CHOICES Program designed to provide intensive interventions to students for a period of ten days in lieu of an out of school suspension. CHOICES reduced thousands of days of out of school suspension days from students in Rockdale County.
Michael is an experienced trainer focused on teaching and helping youth service professionals and teachers develop and implement positive behavioral interventions designed to reduce conflict and poor management in the classrooms and community. He is a certified trainer with the following: Mindset De-Escalation/Restraint, National Abstinence Education Association (NAEA) trainer, Good Behavior Game and Olweus Bullying Prevention. Michael is a national trainer with Time to Teach and he facilitates engaging and “ready to implement” interventions and behavioral modification strategies designed to reduce building-wide suspensions for low-level misbehaviors and increase “teaching and learning” for all students.
Michael’s past work experiences include working with Georgia’s at-risk youth with governmental agencies such as the Department of Juvenile Justice, non-profit organizations (Jane Fonda’s Atlanta-based-Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention), and churches.
