Description
The United States has signed a United Nations Agreement that stipulates that all wrongfully convicted individuals have a right to compensation; however, not all states have compensation laws and exonerees living in states with compensation statutes are not guaranteed compensation. This thesis examines the scope of compensation statutes across states and whether exoneree characteristics map onto state-level differences in laws and effectiveness in compensating exonerees.
