Abstract
This work shares qualitative results of a study on educators learning Book Creator, a free mobile and web app for ages 5+. Participants were 68 pre-service teachers in a semester-long in-person instructional technology course, spread across four semester cohorts from Fall 2023 to Spring 2025. Analysis of submitted progress reports shows a strong positive intention to integrate Book Creator into their future classrooms. In addition, the project allowed pre-service teachers to navigate the features of the application in a structured environment, fostering transferable skills in digital literacy and fluency in educational technology use.
In this session, I will showcase a range of creative ways to prepare pre-service teachers to design their own books appropriate to their area of concentration, while exploring mobile applications to create a variety of engaging e-materials. The hands-on Book Creator activity will provide attendees with best practices for K–12 teachers, technology coordinators, instructional coaches, and offers ideas for curriculum coordinators and library media specialists.
