Description

The first method described is the three-step vocabulary program. This program includes the following steps, tested in a classroom environment and intended to improve long-term retention of important content literacy. The steps are as follows: introduction, where and how vocabulary is provided to students in their material, and the second step is inclusion within the lecture, where the organization of the lecture is modified to highlight the terms apart from the regular rhythm. Then the transition to full acquisition begins with outlining and defining words and content in context in the lecture. This is followed by requirements to utilize the important vocabulary in the day's assignment, followed by further improvement and progression for later lessons. The second method described is the progression and transition to lecture or free-form style notes. This note format is designed to improve attention retention among students and solve the persistent issue of structured notes and accompanying lecture notes being poor proof of learning. With lecture-style notes, students are allowed to slowly transition and improve their skill of taking their own notes before having more requirements to prove and reinforce their retention of material without too extensive a structure in their notes.
