Presentation Abstract

This presentation will explore the journey of Forsyth Central High School (FCHS) in successfully implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) alongside the Community School Model. FCHS is in Cumming Georgia, and is the oldest high school in Forsyth County, established in 1955. The mission of Forsyth Central is to lead students to become healthy and productive Americans who will solve problems, communicate effectively, and serve selflessly. In supporting the mission, FCHS started implementing PBIS in the Fall of 2017, and then in the spring of 2021, we began our efforts to become a Community School, as we have been providing many wrap-around services for over a decade. By integrating PBIS, which focuses on proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors, with the Community School Model that emphasizes strong partnerships and community engagement, we fostered a school culture that prioritizes both academic achievement and social-emotional well-being. We invite you to join us on a tour of our home away from home. Since family and relationships are at the heart of FCHS, we work intentionally to maintain that which distinguishes us, even with a student population over 2,400. The C-House, as we call it, provides opportunities and services for all our students and families to be the place where parents want to send their children, where students feel connected, and where teachers are empowered to lead. During our time together we look forward to sharing with you what makes the C-House so special!
