Student Advocacy Specialists: Connecting with our most at-risk students
Presentation Abstract
School safety starts with school climate. Forsyth County Schools started the Student Advocacy Specialist program in the 2018-2019 school year in an attempt to engage our most severely at-risk students. The team, comprised of six advocates with diverse professional experience, identifies students who are potential risks of suicide and/or homicide. The advocates work with students to develop coping skills and build relationships of trust and support. Families are connected with community resources such as charitable organizations and mental health providers.
