Educator SPA: Self-Care is Prevention in Action
Presentation Abstract
The goal of this presentation is to share the work from our partnership with Georgia State University highlighting the physiological effects of stress on educators and a path to wellness. Newton County Project AWARE and GSU Service Learning Students collected survey data to determine the needs of educators within the school system. Like many other helping professions, educators often experience high levels of empathy, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and compassion fatigue. The presenters will take an interactive and holistic approach which will include:
1. Defining physiological effects of stress, compassion fatigue, and self-care
2. Demonstrating self-care techniques and creating a self-care treatment plan.
