Presentation Abstract
Motivating a learner can be a challenging task. We want to encourage children to approach us willingly during teaching opportunities. Often, teaching is associated with hard work. If we do not start out by making the interaction fun, then the child will likely want to avoid teaching times. Before getting “down to work,” we have to make sure that the child is motivated to interact with us. This presentation is for educators, parents, and caregivers of individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and related disorders. Our focus will be to strengthen the teacher-learner relationship in a variety of environments. Additionally, it will provide strategies that will make the learning experience more enjoyable and likely assist the child to acquire skills faster.
