Presentation Abstract

This session co-presented by the GA DFCS Prevention and Community Support, Henry County Schools and Committee for Children, the makers of the Second Step program, will introduce Social-Emotional Learning and the importance of teaching explicit skills like empathy, managing emotions and problem solving and training staff and engaging families to help create a safe, supportive learning environment for all students. Participants will learn about a unique grant opportunity from the DFCS office: the grant's purpose to support the prevention of child maltreatment and strengthening communities, it's requirements and how to apply. We'll also hear from Henry County schools team as a current and past grantee about the impact of the grant and how teaching the Second Step program as a Tier 1 program supports PBIS efforts in their schools.
