Maintaining Your Sanity in the Trenches…Without Pounds of Chocolate
Brief Biography
With over twenty-five years in education, I have worked with students from preschool through the high school in many different regions and cultures. My experiences include teaching in the inner city, suburbs, and rural communities. I have also taught internationally in Guam, South Korea, and Lima, Peru. I have done extensive staff training throughout the world. Working with teachers and schools is a passion of mine, leading to the completion of my doctoral degree in School Improvement. I know the importance of working with difficult kids, and I want to help others gain insight on what can work to help these students succeed.

Presentation Abstract
Most sessions focus on what can be done for individual students or to create positive school environments using positive behavior supports. However, few focus on the needs of the people who work with challenging children each day. This session is designed to help parents, caregivers, educators and others determine what triggers their own emotional responses when dealing with challenging behaviors. Then, it helps them develop ways to lower their stress level so they are able to develop relationships with these children. The session will target the importance of building support systems. It will also spotlight the need to remain calm and in control when teaching children the skills they need to be successful in life.
