Relevance

This project brought together faculty and librarians from diverse disciplines to create an OER textbook about information literacy. The differing viewpoints represented by the cross-curricular team served to provide a more robust tool for the teaching and learning of information literacy concepts. The resource supplements information literacy instruction in the classroom, gives students a one-stop shop for learning information literacy and research concepts, and provides educators with a resource to refer to when students have questions.

Proposal

This presentation describes how a small two-year college in central Florida enlisted faculty and librarians in creating an information literacy textbook. The presenters’ experiences were detailed as a case study in the upcoming ACRL publication, Intersections of Open Educational Resources and Information Literacy edited by Elizabeth Dill and Mary Ann Cullen. The intent of the case study was to relate the presenters’ process as a guide for those interested in creating a collaborative Open Educational Resource (OER) for themselves. The original case study and this presentation looks at the textbook content, project structure, licensing considerations, hosting platforms, and accessibility. Cason and Rackley are also interested in illuminating their next steps and how the book will be enhanced.
