Abstract
Bark like an angel, kneel like a dog reckons with all of the ways in which we are human: attachment to place, time, and each other. Each piece encapsulates the setting of the midwest, south, or a surreal, dreamlike place that doesn’t quite exist in reality, yet somehow feels familiar. The gothic and grotesque are elements woven throughout, further disorienting the various speakers and characters as they try to come to terms with their lives, especially their respective purposes. The questions posed throughout don’t necessarily come with concrete answers, but, instead, offer some kind of solace in knowing we can’t always understand the unknown.
